CRC NPS Rnd 2 Innerleithen, Scotland
Racing at the Red Bull Project...
Riders rolled into the Innerleithen ‘Red Bull Project’ in Scotland last weekend for Round two of the UK’s premier race series the CRC NPS. With a wide variety of tracks available at the venue even the locals had been kept guessing. Again organization proved to be an issue but luckily the chosen track more than made up for short comings in that department. This race saw a visitor coming over to mix it up with our own home-grown elites, who you ask? None other than South African, pro rider Mr. Andrew Neethling. The forecast bad weather held off and made for dry conditions over the weekend. Near perfect conditions for some very fast and close racing down the steep, rocky, rooty and rutted track all interspersed with enough jumps and drops to keep even the biggest fans of ‘air’ happy.
Top performances by Fergus Lamb, Jo Smith and Jules Coventry were the highlight of the teams weekend. Fergus taking a fantastic first place in Experts taking the win over Jonny Cheetham in second and Ben Hall in third, Jo a second with a crash in the fiercely competitive Youth category, coming in between Josh Byrceland in first spot and Bernard Kerr who took third. Jules put in a fantastic ride to take first in Master women, taking the win by 36 seconds over second place Renee Diwell. Very well done to all of them.
Rich Thomas took a 7th in the Juniors whilst sporting a shiny new Troylee, Dave Young and Matt Simmonds (riding with the number one board) rode hard against some stiff competition and took 12th and 18th in Elite respectively.
The astonhill/Ancillotti boys also had a good weekend Nick and Jack Geoghegan put in some great runs building on the experience they got from the SDA race held here a few weeks ago, and came away with 8th and 8th in Junior and Youth respectively. Well done to them both. Matt Kemp took a well deserved 22nd in senior, a brilliant result considering the size of the Senior field at this event.
Again well done to all the guys for a brilliant weekends racing, a short break now before the third round in the series takes place at Pen-y-bont-fawr. See you there !
